The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy was established in March 2020, with primary responsibilities including the design and implementation of the national digital policy and strategy, the development, coordination, and execution of the national policy and strategy for research and innovation, as well as the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive strategic policy framework for cybersecurity. Its goal is to lead the transition to a modern digital state, strengthening the growth prospects and competitiveness of the Cypriot economy while improving and simplifying the daily lives of citizens. Its vision is to reinforce Cyprus’s position as a regional hub for innovation and technology. The Ministry operates based on core values of transparency, accountability, flexibility and innovation, and sustainable development. Its key strategic objectives include the digital transformation of the country through the development of a strong digital ecosystem—promoting e-government, enhancing connectivity infrastructure, improving citizens’ digital skills, and supporting business digitalization; fostering a sustainable and innovation-driven economy by creating a favorable environment for research and innovation, encouraging outward-looking approaches, and linking research with industry, the labor market, and entrepreneurship; and strengthening the country’s infrastructure by ensuring the effective protection of critical network and information systems, enhancing cybersecurity within businesses, and raising public awareness on cybersecurity issues.
